Ransomware Attack Impacts Town of Tallahassee Timing and Payroll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The city of Tallahassee is among those affected by a ransomware attack against UKG, whose Kronos systems are used by municipalities and businesses nationwide to manage scheduling and payroll.

“UKG recently became aware of a ransomware incident that disrupted the Kronos Private Cloud, which hosts solutions used by a limited number of our customers,” a UKG spokesperson told WCTV.

The Tallahassee City Communications Director confirmed to WCTV that the outage is impacting all employees in the city, and while it does impact staffing and scheduling, it will not affect staffing. city ​​payroll.

A Dec. 13 memo obtained by WCTV said the city asked employees “to be patient and understanding while this issue is addressed.”

Another December 13 email from the city’s chief financial officer to “all mailboxes” states that “Kronos Cloud (Kronos Timekeeping and Telestaff) has been down since Saturday.” We have not yet received an ETA to restore the system. “

The email says the city is working on backup plans for time and payroll management in the coming weeks.

WCTV has contacted the city on how it plans to handle scheduling and payroll until service is restored.

UKG posted an update on the ransomware attack on its website early Tuesday morning. It answers many frequently asked questions and states that “Full System Uptime Restore can take up to several weeks.”

The UKG website displays a list of domestic customers including Tesla, Marriott, Aramark, Waste Management and others. We are reaching out to several local businesses on this list to see if they are among those affected by the Kronos Private Cloud attack.

“We recognize the seriousness of the problem and have mobilized all available resources to support our customers and are working diligently to restore the affected services,” said UKG.
